Coming into the offseason King Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees had one main focus… resigning flamethrowing closer Aroldis Chapman and to no surprise Cashman got it done. There were rumors that Chapman would get 6 years and $100 million, but Cashman was able to sign him for 5 years and $86 million. While this is a record breaking deal for a closer I think this is the single greatest signing of Cashman’s career. When he traded Chapman at the deadline to the Chicago Cubs there was a glimmer of hope that he could resign him in the offseason. Again… Cashman got it done.
When you look at it the Yankees weren’t going to win the World Series last year so trading Chapman for prospects was a great move in its own right but being able to resign him…. UNREAL! Oh, and Cashman got Gleyber Torres the Arizona Fall League MVP and SS of the future for… NOTHING. While the Yankees aren’t winning ring after ring like normal, Cashman is setting up the team to be a force and back to being dominate in a year or two and I can’t wait. Bring on 2018!
What a great move by King Cashman... I have to give him a grade of..
