If I wrote this headline at the beginning of the season you would think I have no idea what I am talking about, but really I’m not sure how the Mets will be hosting the National League Wild Card game Wednesday night. They’ve lost their captain David Wright, Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Jacob Degrom, Steven Matz, Neil Walker, Jon Niese, and others for periods throughout the season. They have had every reason to not meet the lofty expectations, but King Terry Collins gave this team no excuses and it finally something clicked. Since August 20th, King Collins and Sandy Alderson’s team has the best record in baseball at 27-13. Collins should be Manager of the Year and Alderson has made the right move every time. They have used a patchwork rotation of Noah Syndergaard, Bartolo Colon, Robert Gsellman, Seth Lugo, and any other guy Alderson could find on the street. The bullpen has held up with as dominant a 1-2 punch in the game with Addison Reed and Major League saves leader Jeurys Familia. The biggest difference though is clutch hits by everyone on the team from Yoenis Cespedes and Asdrubal Cabrera to T.J. freaking Rivera. How King Collins and Alderson were able to get this team to the playoffs is the best story in baseball, 5 out of 5, what do you think?
