All sports fans are quick to judge players, coaches, general managers, etc, but when was the last time you sat down and thought what the hell is my team's owner doing for the team? Without further ado Jets fans, Woody Johnson you are officially under the microscope.
Woody Johnson is a highly regarded businessman being the chairman and chief executive of the Johnson Company, but that's not what you're here for. You're here because on January 18th, 2000, Woody Johnson purchased the New York Jets. Let's take a look at Woody's resume after 16 years as the owner of the New York Jets.
Over the course of the last 16 years, Woody Johnson's Jets have quite possibly established themselves as the biggest roller coaster in the NFL. Lets just say consistency isn't a word in the New York Jets vocabulary. You guys know the deal... Playoff season, top ten draft pick, extremely mediocre season, rinse and repeat. The Jets definitely haven't been known as winners in the Woody Johnson era as they have only made the playoffs 6 times in 16 years, but they did have 2 incredible seasons that almost led them to their first Super Bowl since Broadway Joe was making his guarantee.
So what does Woody Johnson care about? Is he an owner that's just looking to make money? Possibly. I mean they did trade for Tebow in 2012 and God knows that was only good for selling jerseys. Screw it though I'll give Woody the benefit of the doubt and say he wants to win. So he made a move or two that the media would eat up and generate some money, what owner doesn't? The important thing is that at the end of the day I believe Woody Johnson's number one priority for the Jets is to win a championship. You came here to get the scoop on the owner of the New York Jets and here it is, he's a guy that's been working harder and harder over the years to take the Jets from being a roller coaster to a perennial winner.
Jets fans, we could have a hell of a lot worse than Robert Wood "Woody" Johnson IV. Remember that.
PS: I'm looking at you Dolan, Wilpon (wink wink)
