The Cubs made a trade with the Rockies yesterday bringing in RHP Eddie Butler and the 98th money slot in the international draft. The Cubs gave up the 28th money slot in the international draft and RHP James Farris.
Eddie Butler struggled during his Rockies tenure. In 3 seasons, Eddie Butler posted a 6-16 record and 6.50 ERA. Butler was seen as a prospect that didn’t live up to his promise. He was at one time ranked as the 24th best prospect on Baseball America before the 2014 season. The Cubs are adding him for pitching depth and hoping also he might turn into Jake Arrieta who was also a guy who showed promise but didn’t live up while he was in Baltimore.
King Jed and the boys continue to add depth by making small moves and just deepening the well for this team and giving King Joe Maddon some more insurance if a major injury were to occur.
