Four of the last seven years the Chicago Blackhawks have won the Stanley Cup. With that success the Blackhawk organization has grown and became more popular in the city of Chicago and around the NHL. The popularity of the team has generated more revenue for the United Center and the area around the United Center.
Though the success and revenue the Blackhawks have created for Rocky Wirtz. It doesn’t match the revenue and success of the Wirtz Corporation. More specifically the Wirtz Beverage Group which earlier this year became Breakthru Beverage when it merged with Charmer Sunbelt, another alcohol distribution group in New York in January 2016.
The Wirtz family has been distributing alcohol in the United States since 1945 and have always been successful at doing so. Unlike the Blackhawks which have been taken through some tough times when Bill Wirtz was running the team.
After the merger, Breakthru beverage is now generating $6 billion in revenue and operating in 16 markets including Canada. Becoming the 3rd largest alcohol distributor in the country.
Though the Blackhawks have become more popular they still haven’t been making any profit. Because of the success of Wirtz Beverage over the years the Blackhawks have been able to stay afloat even with the bad years through the mid 90s and mid 2000s.
